質的研究の国際的視点『質的研究をはじめるための30の基礎スキル』
An International Perspective on Qualitative Research: The SAGE 30 Essential Skills for the Qualitative Researcher

質的研究の実施手順に関する国際的な合意形成が進められている。これらの手順は『アメリカ心理学会(APA)執筆マニュアル』(2020)に掲載されている。このマニュアルは、社会科学や健康科学の領域で使用され、世界中で用いられているものであり、混合研究法プロジェクトの質的研究の部分についてはこの規準を参照することができる。私の新刊『30 Essential Skills for the Qualitative Researchers』 (SAGE, 2e, Creswell & Baez, 2021)も、このAPA規準に従っている。またこの書籍は、私の40年にわたるアカデミック・キャリアにおいて、質的研究および混合型研究を行う際に用いてきた実践的なアプローチにも議論を広げている。現在、SAGEの英語原著の日本語訳として、『質的研究をはじめるための30の基礎スキル－おさえておきたい実践の手引き』(新曜社, 廣瀬眞理子訳, 2022）が出版されている。本講演では、読者が最も有用（かつ困難）であると感じた主要な応用例について紹介する。それらには、質的研究者のように考えること、研究の中で生じる難しい感情の管理、質的研究における哲学と理論の活用、質的研究の目的とリサーチクェスチョンの記述、インタビュープロトコルの設計と実施、テキストデータのコーディング、省察的な執筆、優れた質的研究の規準、などが含まれる。これらの話題は、日本の文脈に配慮し、混合研究法と質的研究の関連性を考慮した形で紹介される。パワーポイントによるプレゼンテーションは英語で行われ、日本語の通訳が付く（廣瀬眞理子氏担当）。

There is a growing agreement about procedures internationally for conducting qualitative research. These procedures are available in the American Psychological Association Publication Manual (2020). Because this manual is used in social and health sciences and followed worldwide, we can refer to its standards for the qualitative strand of our mixed methods projects. In my new book, “30 Essential Skills for the Qualitative Researchers (SAGE, 2e, Creswell & Baez, 2021). I follow the APA standards. I also extend the discussion to practical approaches I have used for conducting qualitative and mixed methods studies during my 40-year academic career. This SAGE book is now available in a Japanese translation (Dr. Hirose, translator). In this presentation, I will highlight key applications readers have found most useful (and challenging) in this book. These include: thinking like a qualitative researcher, managing difficult emotions that come up during research, using philosophy and theory in qualitative research, scripting a qualitative purpose statement and research questions, designing and administering an interview protocol, coding text data, writing reflexively, and criteria for a good qualitative study. These topics will be introduced with a) a sensitivity to the Japanese context and b) their connection in the qualitative strand of a mixed methods research study. The PowerPoint presentation will be delivered in English, assisted by a Japanese translator (Dr. Mariko Hirose).

クレスウェル氏は、ミシガン混合研究法プログラム上級研究員である。研究方法に関する32冊の本を執筆している。SAGEのJournal of Mixed Methods Researchを共同で創刊し、フルブライト上級研究員、国立衛生研究所の混合法研究に関するワーキンググループを共同主宰した。2014年、ハーバード大学公衆衛生大学院の客員教授を務め、南アフリカ・プレトリア大学から名誉博士号を授与された。2015年、ミシガン州混合研究法プログラムに参加。これまでにJSMMRのカンファレンスで登壇してきた。 研究の最新情報は、彼のウェブサイト：johnwcreswell.com で見ることができる。 Dr. Creswell is a Senior Research Scientist of the Michigan Mixed Methods Program. He has authored 32 books on research methods. He co-founded SAGE’s Journal of Mixed Methods Research, was a Senior Fulbright Scholar, and co-led a National Institute of Health working group on mixed methods research. In 2014, he served as a Visiting Professor at Harvard’s School of Public Health, and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. 厳密な混合研究法の実施における困難と概念化・方法論的課題の克服のためのストラテジー
Challenges to Conducting Rigorous Mixed Methods Research and Strategies to Overcome Conceptualization and Methodological Challenges

健康、行動、社会現象を研究するために混合法研究の利用が拡大している。しかしながら、質的・量的データセットのデザイン、分析、統合、解釈の複雑さから、厳密な混合研究法を概念化し実施することは、専門家・初心者の双方にとっても困難な場合がある。本発表の目的は、厳密な混合研究法の設計と実施における6つの主要な課題を概説し、これらの課題を克服するための戦略を提供することである。6つの課題とは、質問／目的の記述、デザインの特定、順序、戦略的統合、サンプルと選択、CDE（確認／Confirmed、拡張／Expanded、および 不一致／Discordance）の報告である。この6つの課題は、相互に関連しながら取り組む必要があるものである。困難を克服するため、混合研究法の文献と、混合研究法を実施した個人的な経験から戦略を導き出す。また、順次的・戦略的統合における課題に関する手順を決めるための決定木 (decision tree) を紹介する。さらに、ここでの課題と戦略の説明のために、これまでに発表された混合研究法の実践例を共有する。

The use of mixed methods research for studying health, behavioral, and social phenomena is growing. Nevertheless, conceptualizing and conducting rigorous mixed methods research can be daunting to both expert and novice researchers due to the complexity in design, analysis, integration, and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative datasets. The purpose of this presentation is to outline six key challenges in designing and conducting rigorous mixed methods studies and offer strategies to overcome these challenges. The six challenges include: question/purpose writing, design identification, sequence, strategic integration, sample and selection, and CDE (confirmed, expanded, and discordance) reporting. These six challenges should be addressed in an interrelated manner. To overcome these challenges, strategies are drawn from mixed methods literature and personal experiences of conducting mixed methods studies. A decision tree is also shared to identify various integration procedure to tackle the sequence and strategic integration challenge. Practical examples of published mixed methods studies are shared to illustrate the challenges and strategies.

アティシャン・ヨーナス氏は、カナダ、ニューファンドランド記念大学看護学部助教。パキスタンの看護研究学会の共同設立者。パキスタン看護研究学会が発行する Creative Nursing誌とHealth Sciences Research and Theory誌の共同編集長を務めている。研究テーマは、混合研究法、疎外された人々、思いやり、そして実践科学である。また、パスウェイ構築法、混合研究における不一致への対処法、三者間分析法など、いくつかの方法論に関する研究業績がある。 Ahtisham Younas is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Nursing at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. Ahtisham is the co-Founder of Nursing Research Society of Pakistan. He is the Co-Editor in Chief of Creative Nursing journal and the Health Sciences Research and Theory Journal published by the Nursing Research Society of Pakistan. Ahtisham’s research focuses on mixed methods and research methods, marginalized populations, compassion, and implementation science. In his research, Ahtisham has used exploratory sequential and convergent designs and also published several methods paper such as the pathway building technique, addressing discordance in mixed methods, and the Tripartite Analysis technique.
